Welcome newcomers

I have been told that there are newcomers on this webpage so here is a bit about what the webpage is about.

Dear wizards and witches out there. This site has been created on the world wide web to help our students, those who cant attend our school or those who are to young to attend, to learn magic and the theory behind it. This site will also have tours of Hogwarts to help anyone who will join our school. Since we have no teleyphony line you cannot contact us by muggle ways so you will have to send a letter via owl. Hope you enjoy this new site.

Care of magical and muggle creatures

Due to the fact that most students live in the muggle world we have changed the curriculum so that you look at muggle animals as well. This will allow us to look at extinct animals as well because it is very likely that a wizard could use a time turner to go to the prehistoric age and bring back a beast. So be ready to study lots more.

Kneazle's

Hi this is your first Care of magical creatures lesson. So I thought we should just cover...
Sorry to interrupt the lesson but I need to just say something to the students. I am very sorry that I have not put anything on the site recently but it turns out that the jinx that hit the muggle studies teacher produces boils which are very infectious. Sadly I am also covered in boils but I will start putting things on the website.

Thank you Professor Adams for updating us. Now as I was saying I thought that we should cover somthing that will come up in your OWL's in a coulple of years. Kneazle's look very similar to cats however they are much more inteligent. They can tell if a person is sucpicous and will attack them. These animals are good pets but the ministry of magic has given them a rating of xxx. Here is a picture of one.

Right homework time. I want you to try to find out about hedghogs and the differance between them and knarls.

School

Welcome to your muggle studies lessons. Your usual teacher has been hit with a rather bad jinx so she is not in today. So because I am a muggle I will teach you.
Muggle schools are very different to our schools. For example the lessons are different. The average lessons are maths, english, science, music, art, DT, history and geography. We will be learning about these lessons. Lets start with maths. Maths is the muggle lesson where students learn how to add, take away, times and divide with numbers. There are other lessons that are learnt such as fraction or decimals. Maths is very complicated and there are rules in mathematics. Maths is and always will be very important in the muggle world. For your homework can you please give me some examples of what muggles would use maths for.

Brooms

Brooms have been around for generations. Even though they are not developed enough to fly very long distances broomsticks have come a long way over the years. For instance a cushioning charm has now been made to make the broom more comfortable to sit on. There are many other things that have been changed as well. For your homework can you please write what these are.

Cooking class

Hi, I am Professor Wood and I am the the head chef in the kitchens. Once you leave school you will need to cook for yourself so each month I will give you a new recipe.
Lets start with a drink to complement any of your dishes. Pumpkin juice is a delicious drink that is easy to make.

Ingredients:
2 cups of pumpkin, chopped up into chunks
2 cups of apple juice
½ cup of pineapple juice
1 teaspoon of honey
Cinnamon, Ginger, Nutmeg and Allspice

Directions
Step 1: Juice the pumpkin pieces by squeezing through a cloth, using a juicing charm or any other spell (or you could use a muggle blender).
Step 2: Pour the pumpkin juice, apple juice and pineapple juice into a mixer (or a muggle blender).
Step 3: Add the honey (I recommend you start with 1 teaspoon because you can add some later) to the juices and mix (blend) thoroughly.
Step 4: Add your spices but not too much.
Step 5: Chill your pumpkin juice or serve with ice

I hope you enjoy making and drinking your pumpkin juice. See you at Hogwarts and remember another recipe will be coming in March.

Quidditch

Quidditch is the best sport in the history of witches and wizards. And the school does it too. But we need to know who is winning. This match will be between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff. Click here and complete all four tasks. Once you have done this add up your scores and post them on the blog as a comment. The winner will be the one with the most points. The reward for winning will be 50 house points. Good luck.

Whomping Willow

Welcome class to your second lesson. This week we will be looking at Whomping Willows. You all did your homework very well. Whomping Willows attack anything that come near them. They are very violent so you must be careful when you see one. Most Whomping Willows will have a weak spot on them. Simply stun them. Remember this because at the end of every year there will be a test.
You wont have this lesson for a while but I have been informed by Professor Daisy your divination teacher that you have palm reading next lesson. She wants you to find a picture of a hand and label the the lines on the palm. You must label them with their name.

Care of magical creatures

Hello class. I am Professor Hagrid and I am your teacher. Before we start you must learn the ministry ratings. Here to explain everything is Professor Mary.
Hello, the ministry has given every magical creature a rating to say how dangerous they are. Here are the ratings.
x: Boring
xx: Harmless / may be domesticated
xxx: Competent wizards should cope
xxxx: Dangerous / requires specialist knowledge / skilled wizard may handle
xxxxx: Known wizard killer / impossible to train or domesticate
Good, now that you all know the ministry ratings you must study them for next lesson. That is your homework. There will be a test.

Professor Adams

I am Professor Adams and I am the school technician and site director. My job is to keep this site running by writing posts, and I make sure that any technology used, mainly in muggle studies, is working. Also, because I am a technician I teach students that want a muggle job how to use technology. We have hardly any technology in the school and there is too much magic for it to work anyway. Because of this there is a magic proof room where muggle studies is held and I work. There may be a hogwarts tour post about this room.

The Great Hall

The Great Hall is the biggest room in all of Hogwarts. It is where we have our feasts, assembly's and lots of other things. The ceiling of The Great Hall is bewitched to look like the sky outside. The dueling club and the choir meet in The Great Hall.
When there are feasts five large tables sit in the middle of The Great Hall. One for Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and the staff. House elf's prepare the food in The Kitchens and send it up. At Christmas and Halloween The Great Hall is amazingly decorated.

Friday 4 February 2011

Choir

Welcome to the Hogwarts choir. I am professor Flitwick and today we will be singing double trouble. Here is the old choir singing it.

Next week we  will be performing it.

Charms

Lets start with the summoning charm. Point your wand and say accio and the object you want to summon. I want you to start practicing this.

Wednesday 2 February 2011

Timetable

Keep an eye on the timetable because every time you have your lesson now it will show which lesson you will have next week. This is so you know what the lesson is.
Professor Adams

House point system

There is now house points. Each person on this blog will receive or lose house points for their house. They are already being given out so try to get them and dont lose them. The winning house will get a prize. Good luck.

Astronomy

My name is Professor Legg. Studying the stars is very important. So we will start with stars. I am sure you have heard of constellations. Here is a rough picture of constellations.

Please can you study this picture. There will be no astronomy for a long time so there is no homework.

Tuesday 1 February 2011

Sunday 30 January 2011

Early grading

Due to a new timetable system coming soon I will grade the wand home work now. Only one student did the homework and they did very well. Unicorn tail hair is another material you can use for a wand core. However you did not explain it very well so I will give it an A. Everyone Else must improve in getting their homework in on time.

Grades

You may notice there is a grading system now. All your work will be marked like this so we can keep track on what you are doing.

Extra curricular classes

Welcome to this weeks extra curricular activity. This term it will be muggle art. Unlike wizard art, muggle art does not move on the page. We will be working on the colour wheel today. There are three main colours in the colour wheel. These are called primary colours. They are red, blue and yellow. From these primary colours we can get secondary colours, these are green, orange and violet. From there you can get many other shades of these colours. Like yellow green or red orange. Here is the basic colour wheel.
Your homework is to paint and label this colour wheel with muggle paint. You can mix the paints to get different shades. Homework on this site will start getting marked. The marking system will be on the site soon.

Hogwarts tours

Every Saturday we will put a picture and detail of each room of Hogwarts so you know what the school looks like. We will start next week with the Great Hall. For now here is a picture of Hogwarts.

Reed: October 28 - November 24
Birch: December 24 - January 20
Ivy: September 30 - October 27
Hawthorn: May 13 - June 9
Alder: March 18 - April 14
Oak: June 10 - July 7
Hazel: August 5 - September 1
Willow: April 15 - May 12
Elder: November 25 - December 23
Rowan: January 21 - February 17
Holly: July 8 - August 4
Ash: February 18 - March 17
Vine: September 2 - September 29
Each wand also has a core. Whether it is a feather from a phoenix or a hair from a veela. There are many other things that can be used for a core. Your homework is to find 1 other and give the name of it by next Friday. The timetable will be changing next week so the topic will not be on wands.

Thursday 27 January 2011

New timetable

You may notice that there is a timetable on the right hand side of the website. This is the school timetable and it will tell you when which house has a class and what that class is. Keep looking at it because it will change each week. The timetable will start on Friday 28 January and will be with the whole school. The subjuct is wand studies so make sure you go to this website on Friday.

Homework

This site on the computor will start giving homework to make sure that all students can learn the maximum they can off of this site. To start there will be a piece homework every week. The homework will be to do with one of the subjects on this website. To start each student must find what wood their wand should have and post a comment of it on this website. Good luck!

Wand studies

Before you start Hogwarts you will need a wand. If you are at Hogwarts already then this will be useful for wand studies. The first thing you need to know is that wands pick wizards and witches. Sometimes the wood of the wand corresponds with your birthday. For example the owner of a reed wand normally has their birthday between  October 28 and November 24.

The sorting hat

Oh you may not think I'm pretty,
But don't judge on what you see,
I'll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me.
You can keep your bowlers black,
Your top hats sleek and tall,
For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
And I can cap them all.
There's nothing hidden in your head
The Sorting Hat can't see,
So try me on and I will tell you
Where you ought to be.
You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;
You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;
Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
if you've a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;
Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.
So put me on! Don't be afraid!
And don't get in a flap!
You're in safe hands (though I have none)
For I'm a Thinking Cap!

Are you brave and daring, if so you are a Gryffindor,
Are you loyal and honest, if so you are a Hufflepuff,
Are you clever and creative, if so you are a Ravenclaw,
Are you cunning and ambitious, if so you are a Slytherin.
What are you? The official sorting hat ceremony will take place when you attend Hogwarts.
